Deloitte’s eDiscovery - E-Discovery is a component of the legal Discovery process where Electronically Stored Information (ESI) is captured and made available to reviewers to determine relevance (responsiveness) or level of confidentiality (privilege).
This industry has seen many evolutions over the years as technology has influenced both the data being reviewed as well as the way in which we look at that data. Less than thirty years ago the review process was performed by collecting all the boxes of documents. Review consisted of picking up a box and then sifting through its contents. Documents of significance were marked or pulled, and the box would be removed. Review continued until all boxes had been looked at (reviewed).
As time moved forward, these documents began to be scanned in a process that was called "Imaging." Instead of being picked up and manually reviewed in a warehouse, the box was placed next to a scanning machine and basic technicians could grab the papers and send them through. Tiff images were created. Imaging allowed the review team to look at the data electronically rather than by hand, speeding review tremendously.
As ESI has started becoming a larger percentage of the data that needed to be reviewed, Electronic Discovery was born. This process began as a mirror of the Imaging process. Documents were printed to tiff images, and a linear review would take place. ESI had another advantage over paper the existence of metadata (different types of properties of the data they were looking at) gave reviewers more insight into what they were looking at.
The past 10-15 years have seen a huge number of leaps forward in eDiscovery. Removal of duplicates, indexing and searching of data has allowed review populations to be culled down to only data that is likely relevant to the case. Data has begun to be reviewed natively rather than through images. Review platforms can be accessed over the web and are built to support multiple concurrent reviewers so that multiple people can touch the same document without having to wait in line or make copies of that document.
Additionally, analytics have started being applied to speed the review process. Linear reviews are now supplemented or even replaced by concept based clustering or social network modeling. This allows reviewers to more quickly speed through document populations because they can review similar material together. As we move into the next phase of E-Discovery evolution, predictive analytics are being applied in order help find the relevant documents even faster.
The E-Discovery industry is a relatively new industry, but is rapidly growing as more global sources begin to get involved. Providers look for better ways to handle the ever increasing volume of data produced in today’s society while still improve the efficiency of the process so that litigation can be handled in an expedient cost- effective way.
Work you’ll do
The EDSC Dev QA plays the crucial role of developing and testing the applications that are utilized by the rest of the EDSC team for the above mentioned purposes. The Development group is broken into a few internal functions. The core development team programs and supports the internally developed strategic assets for the EDSC.This can also include many of the ways we have extended the functionality of existing technologies, such as Automation of loading data.
The EDSC Dev QA team is dedicated to testing the quality of internal software applications and tools and how they may integrate with third party applications.The team is process oriented and test across projects developed in methodologies such as Agile and Kanban to ensure consistent quality results. The QA team is responsible for various testing initiatives such as identifying and setting up baseline project test data, high level scenarios, test design, test execution, and defect management. Some of the core types of testing covered during the development testing lifecycle consist of Unit, Functional, Regression, Smoke, Integration, System, End to end, Exploratory, UAT, and Production verification.
- Candidate should have overall 1 to 3 years of Hands-on testing and QA activities experience
- Excellent understanding of quality assurance processes and methodologies
- Experience working with QA test management tools (Azure DevOps Server is preferred)
- Knowledge of the testing life cycle from functional requirements to test design and execution
- Demonstrate ability to accurately reproduce bugs and possess an eye for detail
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks and Scrum methodology preferred
- Familiarity with testing techniques like Equivalence partitioning, Boundary value analysis, Decision table testing, Exploratory testing
- Intermediate working knowledge of MS-Office applications, MS Outlook, Basic MS SQL Query Analyzer
- Experience in API testing is a plus
- Experience in performance testing is a plus
- Ability to work with many different file and data types
- Ability to work with business process management system
- Ability to communicate effectively with multiple teams located geographically
- Law firm or litigation experience preferred
- Strong technical skills and understand the in and out of EDSC tools and applications (is a plus)
